Baccarat crystal

One of the most high-quality crystal manufacturers, from the Baccarat region, France. The company started under King Louis XV of France, while under his directive the Cardinal Louis-Joseph de Laval-Montmorency in 1764.

In 1816 the company started to produce crystal products and seven years later the crown commissioned the factory for a number of products. Baccarat had their letter B on most products, which now included: perfume bottles, chandeliers, and stemware.

They already had a world-renown name and won in 1855 a gold medal at the World’s fair. And their reputation expanded through Asia, a palace in Istanbul wanted a crystal balustrade made by Baccarat crystal and the royal court of Portugal was one of their clients.

Baccarat crystal quality was of much interest for the perfumers as the bottles to hold them had to be wonderfully decorated and of certain properties to ensure that the outside air could not interfere with the chemical composition of the perfume. By 1907 they produced over 4,000 bottles of perfumes daily.

The company has two museums located in Baccarat and one in Paris and it is one of the main and renowned luxury crystal producers.

To train a manufacturer, artisan of Baccarat crystal, takes 15 years and as such becoming a Baccarat artisan is a privilege that takes dedication, hence the high quality of their products.
