The agent behind the tunic

A gunshot disturbs more than just the silence in a small quiet town. The target is a catholic priest, named Duncan. What would trigger anyone to shoot a seemingly very kind thoughtful priest, that had been around multiple cities, countries and heard so many stories along his way?
