Death of innocence

When Ana Callan, a 14-year-old teenager, goes missing, besides the parents, the Irish police force does not seem to go on full alert straight away.

A colleague came to take her to a walk in the park. But no one ever calls for Ana, according to her mother. Why is that? Where did she go? And no one can give more details?

Maybe she ran away from home, as so many teens do in Ireland, giving their parents a scare, maybe she got into an accident, tripped or fell reaching for her phone, and the prejudiced images of a woman start to emerge in the community that is so often quick to put labels on girls, by the way, they dress, wear makeup or behaviour.

It is a men’s world but is it a boys’ world? It seems her colleagues bullied her relentless based on… nothing.

Misogyny, and sexualisation views towards girls, the fact she matured faster, the fact she dressed too provocative or just because she was blond, all these misogyny views towards women, girls seem to start young, in the small community of Leixlip, but no one could have imagined what lay in wait for Ana Callan, or what she went through.

Even inspector Oliver, who is investigating the missing person case, needs to overcome his prejudice and will discover something much deeper inside him.

A story-based, unfortunately, on real events.
