British records
Britain has numerous records. The United Kingdom established various fields records past and current. Here are just a few of a long list. It is through this innovations, these leading points that the United Kingdom made its definite positive contribution to the worlds evolution. Please allow me to present some of these great achievements in a small list that tries to do a bit of justice, saying thank you to all those great man and woman, their ideas, inventions and innovations that made us proud and made our world better.
- 1659 The first known bank cheque is issued and was made payable to Mr Delboe for the huge sum (for the time) of £400, around £75,000 in today's money. Thus a new era for banking began.
- 1825 The first public steam railway in the world, first locomotives were invented by G Stephenson and his son, who built Locomotion No. 1 and the Rocket in 1825. Because of this English genius inventors we have today railways
- 1919 The British Empire was its largest in the world with 35.5 million square kilometres, or about 26.35% of the world’s surface, reached after the Treaty of Versailles signed in 1919
- 1926 The world's first demonstration of a working television is given by inventor John Logie Baird at his laboratory in London
- 1962 The Beatles is the best selling band of all times, with a certified unit sold of 291.4 million records, and a total of around 600 million records. First Beatles record sold in 1962
- 1996 The Spice Girls sold over 100 million records, making them the best-selling female group in history, with their debut album Spice released in 1996 selling more than 23 million copies worldwide
- 2022 Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, reigned for 70 years and 214 days (6 February 1952 - 8 September 2022), thus making her the 2nd longest reigning monarch in the world
